P.A.L.S (Pets Assisting the Lives of Seniors)
This program is designed to assist clients with caring for their beloved pets by means of providing pet food assistance and veterinarian care. For many of our homebound clients, a pet provides much needed companionship. One of our surveyed clients wrote to us stating, “God Bless you for thinking about our little pets. I love and adore my kitty more than anything or anyone on Earth. I couldn’t live a day without him.”
This is a relatively new program which is receiving positive community involvement and has a potential for much growth. Through a collaboration between Meals on Wheels and More and Blue Dog Rescue, identified clients are receiving a monthly supply of pet food delivered to their residence by a volunteer. In addition, Meals on Wheels and More, Town Lake Animal Center, Emancipet, Blue Dog Rescue, and North Central Care Givers have joined efforts to provide free vet services to the pets of homebound Meals on Wheels and More clients during a one day Senior Pet Fair in early April. Volunteers will assist in transporting the clients’ pets to and from the vet care clinic.
