Recent studies have shown that Austinites volunteer for charities at a high rate, but are less likely to give money. The Corporation for National and Community Service ranked Austinites third in the nation in volunteerism this year, but in 2003 a Chronicle of Philanthropy study showed Austin placing 48th out of the top 50 US cities in per capita nonprofit donations.
